Cheryl Austin Hicks has been an artist for more than sixty years. Having grown up in a family where music and art were a way of life, she developed her love of drawing by the age of five. Cheryl graduated from Wingate University with BA in Art.
She taught Advertising and Graph Design for South Piedmont Community College for sixteen years. She taught courses in Drawing, Advanced Drawing, Photography, Typography and Portfolio Design. Using the Adobe Creative Suite, Cheryl led her students to write, illustrate and publish children's books.
Throughout the years, she continued to show her artwork at local art events and judged numerous art shows in surrounding areas. Currently, she is a member of the Piedmont Painting Pal's Plein Air Group and the Indian Trail Art and Historical Society. Her favorite medium is acrylic but has recently been exploring Oil Pastels. Art brings Cheryl great joy and allows her to look deeper into the beauty that surrounds us all. Her main goal is to stir the imagination in the viewer. Exploring new mediums is what keeps art exciting for her and she believes that learning is contagious.
